Did You Know Your Ears May Ache from Dental Issues?

Posted on 6/7/2021 by Rai Oral Surgery and Dental Implants
Did You Know Your Ears May Ache from Dental Issues? The throat, nose, and ears are all connected through a delicate network of canals, tubes, and passageways. Therefore, diagnosing a problem in one of these areas will require an examination of the others. This also explains why dental problems can result in ear pain. Here are dental conditions that may result in ear pains.

TMJ Disorder

The temporomandibular joints connect your lower jawbone to the skull. If this extensive and complex network of muscles, ligaments, and joints does not work in sync, you can develop TMJ disorder. As a result, you might experience ear pain and other related symptoms. If you have TMJ disorder, you should visit our offices for check-ups and possible treatment.

Bruxism

When you grind your teeth, it can cause several problems, including ear pain and damaged teeth. Given that the temporomandibular joints neighbor the inner and middle ear, any condition that develops in your jawbone can spread to your ears. If you have Bruxism, you should see us for possible treatment immediately. This is because continued grinding of your teeth will cause not only ear pain but also significant damage to your teeth. In fact, it may result in cracked teeth, causing damage to your gums.

Bite Misalignment

Not all bite-related problems will result in TMJ disorder. Minor jaw misalignments can cause pain that gravitates towards your ear. This is because the nerve controlling the tensor tympani controls chewing muscles. As a result, pain from your jaw gets a direct pathway to the inner ear. Even though a ringing ear is not physically painful, it can drain you psychologically. Therefore, you should take good care of your oral health to prevent possible ear pain. Contact our offices for more information on the connection between dental issues and ear pain.
