Where Are Dental Implants Headed in the Next 5 Years?

Posted on 4/25/2022 by Dr. Shaun Rai
Where Are Dental Implants Headed in the Next 5 Years?Dental implants are a form of artificial tooth roots that help replace missing teeth. Compared to other oral appliances like crowns, bridges, and dentures, dental implants are by far the most effective solution for those looking to replace lost teeth. If you have lost your tooth due to injury or infection, getting dental implants will go a long way in restoring your smile. Thanks to technology, dental implants have evolved. More advances are being made to create better implants. In the next five years, so much could change about dental implants.

The Possible Changes

Dental implants are made from titanium, a durable material that can last for over 20 years. However, as much as this material is long-lasting, new material could be used to make much more durable implants in the next five years. Experts are searching for a much better material that gives implants the best shape.
The process of getting dental implants could also change for the better. Today, the process of getting dental implants is a little bit complicated and involves extended surgery. This could change over the next five years as research continues. Furthermore, the time it takes to recover from a dental implant surgery could also get shorter. Today, it takes several weeks to months to recover from dental implant surgery. This is mainly due to the high number of tissues that are affected during the surgery. However, this could change if better implant placement methods are discovered.

Some dental implant users list fracture of the implant as a possible disadvantage. This means that today's implants can fracture due to various reasons. However, this problem could be addressed permanently over the next five years. New materials could be used to make them other than titanium.
